Recognizing Those Who Exemplify Leadership, Team Work and Community Service

History

The Michael Callin Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. was established in 2007 in recognition and honor of DFC Michael Callin. This non-profit 501(c)(3) organization provides scholarships to students and police academy recruits who exemplify the qualities of integrity and service to others that characterized Michael's life.

Michael Callin, a 1998 Oviedo High School graduate and member of the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC), joined the Orange County Sheriff's office as a 911 Operator, then a Dispatcher, and eventually went on to become an Orange County Sheriff's Office Motors Deputy. He served his community for 7 years before being killed in the line of duty on August 2, 2006.

The National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. has an inscription in place which honorably states, "It is not how these officers died that made them heroes, it is how they lived." Realizing what Michael stood for and the impact his life has had on our community and those who knew him, we want to honor those who exemplify the core values of leadership, team work, and service to the community.

Michael lived a life that exemplified these values. He is remembered by his friends and family for his attitude of loving, caring, and giving.
